How to overcome perfectionism
and procrastination
Whenever
we work on something important we want to do it perfectly. We want
someone to say “ You did a great job”
perfectionism and procrastination
are closely related and they hold
you back from living success from the inside out.
No
matter how perfect something is there is
always room for improvement
and the truth is that by striving
for excellence, you will end up with
a much
better result than you would if you
were striving for perfection.
What
are you trying to do perfectly? Where are you procrastinating? Identify one
thing and answer this
statement in as many
ways as you can, “ If I were to strive
for excellence , rather than
perfection I would… “ Next ask yourself,
Then why aren’t I doing these things? And see what fear based. Answers show up
for you. Just being aware of fear, will
allow you to move forward. .
How to recognize success in
failure
Successful
people look at what’s worked. Learn from
what hasn’t, set new priorities and then move on.
Gates
re-evaluated the goal, re- grouped and revised.
And you can bet he didn’t do this all on his own. He asked his key people to help. Gates
recognized that successful people
look at what’s worked, learn from
what hasn’t, set new priorities
and then move on, you don’t
see them dragging their
failures into work
with them every morning. Gates is where he
is because he knows the importance of looking for the success in the future.
Ask yourself
this,” where are you focusing on failure rather than success? Take one
percent failure and follow the steps below.
Re-evaluate
Look at what worked well
Look at what didn’t
worked well
Determine what you
learned
Regroup and revise
See the success and let go
of the failure
Identify where to go
next
Set new priorities
Revise your goal and do
whatever it takes to get there
Two ways to shift your
energy
People
often get struck in their
mental energy (thoughts and state
of mind) and in their emotional
energy (feelings). The fastest way to move that energy is by using your body.
Movement and breath
are two powerful ways to shift your
energy They affect your
nervous system to create positive change from the
inside out. The ways to shift energy
is as follows.
Move
your body
Sitting at your desk and working all day long creates tension
in your body and mental fatigue. Get
up and stretch stamp
your feet on the ground Walk to your
car and back swing
your arms clamp you hands walk or work
out at lunch. Move your body in
any way you want. You are heard
the expression “Get your
blood moving” well that’s
exactly what you are doing here your energy
shifts as you move your
body. You will feel refreshed and
removed.
Breath fully
If you find that you are frustrated overwhelmed or angry. It’s likely that the stick energy is showing up for you as shallow breathing
(from your chest only) .
Changing
your breathing pattern can immediately shift your energy. Sitting
up straight with your
feet flat on the floor place
one hand just below your
chest and the other hand
on your lower
abdomen. Keep your mouth closed;
inhale slowly expanding throughout your rib cage and stomach. Pause for one to two seconds, exhale slowly, making your exhalation a bit
longer than your inhalation. Pause for one
or two seconds, use your hands to feel your chest and stomach more as you breathe.
Repeat
this breathing pattern for ten or more breaths.
As you do, you will start to
notice a “ setting down” of energy
from your head into
your body (you can actually feel this
happening). As a result you will become more relaxed peaceful and centered.
