ART OF INTRODUCTION: BUILD CONTACTS SMARTLY

First impression is the best impression. It determines future of your relationships

Self introduction-   To introduce yourself:-

Greet the person with a smile.

Give details like name and employment and offer to shake hands. Make sure
            your hand is not moist.

Do not give honorific to yourself.

Inquire about other person’s name and occupation.

If the person interested in talking to you, take the conversation to next level.

Limit yourself to discussing general topics like work & interests.

Handover your card and ask when you should get in touch with him.

Offering more than one card is unprofessional.

Request to other person card only if he is not in a higher position then you.  Else,     wait for him to offer it.

Being Introduced

Once a person is introduced to you, repeat his name when greeting him.
Stand during the introduction.

Use his name several times in the conversation to remember.  If not sure of   pronunciation ask him

If you forget his name say sorry and ask again.

If he forgets your name offer it with a smile on your face.

Refrain from dropping the title and using his first name till the person allows you to do it

Where accepting a card, look at it for a few seconds and place it in a planner or      business card case.

Be confident, polite and warm during the conversation.

Listen more then you talk

Facilitating

Before introducing two people to each other, consider if both can   benefit from it.

Consider their credibility.

Be straight forward about the purpose of introduction.

If the person seeking the introduction is not credible, refuse the proposal politely.

When introducing two people, name of the person being introduced is mentioned last.

Always introduce the person in lower rank to the person is higher rank.

Avoid commanding introductions. It is better to say “This is Ms Rehman “then Meet Ms Rehman.

Keep the forms of address equal.

The way you introduce two people effects the image they will   have of each other.

You can add appreciative words about them.  Make sure your appreciation suits the contexts and purpose of introduction.

After  completing  the introduction,  exchange  some pleasant  conversation  with both  of them  and excuse yourself  from these and allow  them  to  converse .
