It's not Party that Counts, But the Party.

Like Army, governments too march on their stomachs.

Delhi is a government’s heaven,  the Epicure's delight,  and the  fixers fantasy  but to  navigate  ones way   through all  its innumerable  pleasures requires  three attributes.  A sturdy digestive system, a unlimited capacity  to socialize   and the ability  to have the  courage  of one’s  connection even if there are some  extremely  dubious  names on the guest list.

Politics is the conduct of public affairs for private advantage.

It is not the political party  that counts  but the  party preferably  one with  the  finest  liquors of the  world, the most  delectable  dishes  that can be  conjured  up by  the finest  cooks  and the most beautiful  women  in the country thrown in.  This may  require some  investment  but the dividends are  awesome because of the inviolable moral  code that “Thou shall not be  disloyal to  the salt thou hast eaten, unless  of course  thou  hast  partaken  of someone  else’s salt in even larger  quantities”.

Every power party has four sets of individuals partaking its exquisite' s and hedonism:-

Actually in position to exercise power.

Those looking for ways to get the political power enjoyed by the first lot exercised in their favor (arms deals /corporate to matches etc)

The cognoscente, the air kissers, the dahling- but-how-lovely-to see-you-here set define them as you chose (film stars/ fashion models/fashion designers/dancers & likes) simply to provide the necessary fission of excitement that mandatory sparkle, the required élan.

Media Barons and their underlings to broadcast intimate details of this mélange of power, glamour and influence.

If you are seen in one your estimation of you rises.  If attending regularly, other people’s estimation of you rises.  If you are an honored guest at one   it means you wield exceptional power.  If you can pull a party of that kind that will be an infallible proof that you have the country by the short hair.

There is mistaken belief that politics is all about hard work about nursing constituency and committed activities     of this sort.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  Politics is something only about nursing a hangover.

These are three stages of the cycle that creates the political fixer. First the acquisition  of power, second the  consolidation  of power and finally the welding of power in order to acquire   more of it, consolidate  more of it  and   wield more of it.

Out of the crooked   timber of humanity, no straight thing was ever made
