HR Policies to Curb Rumour / Gossip

Instill effective communication lines, so that there are no
information gaps.

Develop a culture of concern, empathy rather than ruthless
competition.

Provide advice, counseling to those made targets of gossip.

Make senior management aware of the problems.

Warn gossip mongers.  If need be resort to termination.

Check rumors promptly.  Counter with facts.

Hold meeting and brief regularly on changes, layoffs, promotions
and matters that may cause anxiety.

Have clear policies on ethos and expected mode of behaviors,
professional etiquettes and clear communication policies that
prohibit sharing /distributing gossip through any means of
communication.
