Blocking Time Slots can Boost Performance

Getting full attention on to a task requires at least 15 minutes of uninterrupted focus.  It takes 25 minutes to return to the task which you have been focusing on and strayed because of interruptions.

Working in a distracting environment has a negative impact on the quality and output of their work.

Distractions at work reduce one’s IQ that is twice more than the IQ reduction of those who regularly smoke marijuana.

Avoid all distractions by physically removing yourself from the crowded place /space or letting others know that you will not like to be disturbed for that time slot.  Turn off your phone.  Switch off your internet and e-,mail and settle down to your work.

While using time blocks to achieve tasks, keep these points in mind.

(a)          Treat time block as an important appointment with
yourself and make them in your character.

(b)          Do not plan them in too much in advance.  Designate
time blocks one or two days before an important deadline.

(c)          Limit them for one or two hours only. Difficult to
concentrate for an extended stretch of time.

(d)       Make a plan every day.

(d)          List down your important assignments which need your
full attention.

(f)         Consciously avoid distractions.

(g)       Tackle huge project by dividing into smaller chunks.

(h)       Group tasks needing similar skills/efforts.
