THE NEW LEADER: TRANSFORMING THE ART OF LEADRESHIP INTO THE SCIENCE OF RESULTS




PRIMAL LEADERSHIP
The fundamental task of a leader is to prime good feelings in those they lead. That occurs when a leader creates resources, a reservoir of positively that frees the best in people. At it roots, the primal job of leadership is emotional.

TOXIC LEADERSHIP
Poisons the emotional climate of a workplace.

MEMORY BOOK

Every organization must compile a memory book to record their thoughts, fears and hopes which could be shared with future generations.
Leadership is distributed. It resides not solely in the individual at the top but in every person at every level who, in one way or the other, acts as a leader to a group of followers.
Leader is not just what he does but how he does it. It calls the open loop nature or system of the human brain’ nature of the limbic system our emotional centers. An open loop system depends largely on external sources to manage itself. A close loop system such as the circulatory system is self regulatory.
Comforting presence of another person not only lowers the patient’s blood pressure but also shows the secretion of fatty acids that block arteries.
Open loop system/design of the limbic system means that other people can change our very physiology and so our emotions. By fifteen minutes conversations the physiological profit changes, that is called the phenomenon of mirroring.
When three strangers sit facing each other in silence for a minute or two, the one who is most emotionally expressive transmits his or her mood to the other too without speaking a single word.
Leaders typically talked more than anyone else and what they said was listened to more carefully. They are first to speak out on a subject, their remarks are most often referred to what the leader had said than to any one else’s comments.
All eyes ultimately turn to the dominant member- the emotional leader.

LAUGHTER THE OPEN LOOP

Emotions may spread like viruses but not all emotions spread with the same ease. Cheerfulness & warmth spreads most easily while irritability is less contagious and depression spreads hardly at all.
Laughter demonstrate the power of the open loop in operation, hearing laughter we automatically smile or laugh creating a spontaneous chain reaction resulting in positive emotional hijack.
Smiles & laughter evolved as a non verbal way to cement alliances, signifying that an individual is relaxed & friendly. Smiles can be feigned but laughter is uniquely trust worthy sign of the friendship.


Emotionally intelligent leaders attract talented people, conversely negative people who are cold, irritate, touchy, domineering repel people.
Optimist enthusiastic leaders more easily retain their people.
A sober mood helps while considering risky situation. Too much optimism can lead to ignoring dangers. Sudden flood of anger can rivet a leader’s attention on an urgent problem. Mild anxiety can focus attention & energy. Prolonged distress can sabotage & leaders relationship. Beyond a moderate level increase in anxiety and worry erode mental abilities.
Have a glass-is-half-full outlook.
A well timed joke or playful laughter can stimulate creativity; open lines of communication enhance a sense of connection & trust and can make work fun, Increases the likely hood of financial concession during a negotiation.
For every 1 percent improvement in the service climate, there is a 2 percent increase in revenue. Superior customer care is the holy grail of any service industry.

RESONANT LEADERSHIP

Resonance amplifies and prolongs the emotional aspect of leadership. Resonance minimizes the noise in the system. “More signal less noise” is the mantra which glues people together in a team.

THE DISCORDANT LEADER

Dissonant leadership produces groups that feel emotionally discordant they will have a sense of being continually off-key.
Discordant leaders can range from abusive leaders who brawls/bawls out and humiliate people to the manipulative socio path. Some more subtle using a surface charm or social polish even charisma to mislead & manipulate.

 THE DEMAGOGUE.

Demagogue & dictators have used their leadership qualities for deplorable ends. Demagogues’ spread negative emotions mix of fear & anger the threat to “us” from “them and the cleared that “they will take what “we” have.
Their message polarizes people rather that utilizing for a common cause. Polities are demagogues most natural ecological niche.
Self absorbed leaders are often  clueless.
