Difference between Transformational & Transactional Leadreship




TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP:

Builds on man’s need for meaning.
Is preoccupied with purposes and values, morals and ethics.
Transcends daily affairs.
Oriented towards meeting long term goals without compromising human values & principles.
Separates causes & symptoms & work at prevention.
Values profit as the basis of growth.
Is proactive, catalytic & patients.
Focuses more on missions & strategies for achieving them.
Make full use of human resources.
Identifies and develops new talents.
Recognizes & rewards significant contributions.
Design & redesigns jobs to make them meaningful & challenging.
Release human potential.
Models love.
Leads out in new directions.
Aligns internal structures & systems to reinforce over reaching values & goals.

TRANSACTIONAL LEADERSHIP:

Builds on man’s need to get a job done and to make a living.
Preoccupied with power & position, polities & perks.
Mired in daily affairs.
Short term & hard data oriented.
Confuses causes and symptoms and concerns itself more with treatment than prevention.
Focuses on tactical issues.
Relies of human relations to lubricate human interaction.
Follows and fulfill role expectations by striving to work effectively with in current systems.
Supports structures & systems that reinforce the bottom line maximize efficiency and guarantee short term politics.

Both kinds of leadership is necessary, but transformational leadership must be present as it provides the frame of reference, the strategic boundaries with in which transactions takes place.

The goal of the transformational leadership to transform people & organization in a literal sense, to change them in mind and heart, enlarge vision insight and understanding, clarify purposes, make behavior congruent with beliefs principle & values and bring out changes that are permanent, self-perpetuating and momentum building.

It requires vision, initiative, patience, respect persistence, courage and faith to be a transforming leader.
